Dental Implants are a great way to replace missing teeth, whether it’s a single tooth, multiple teeth, or a full set of dentures that you want to replace. At Springfield Dental Care we truly believe that dental implants are the best treatment option for many of our patients. Working together with motivated patients and hygienists ensures a consistently high success rate.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is essentially a replacement for a natural tooth root.
Am I suitable for dental implants?
If you have good general health, then dental implants will almost certainly
work for you. It is rare to have health problems, which will prevent
the use of dental implants, but we will discuss your individual case
with you. It must be noted however, that heavy smokers have a slightly
lower success rate due to a delayed healing process after implant placement.
An initial consultation is needed to assess your suitability for dental implants and also to discuss with you the treatment required and its implications.
During the planning of your implant treatment, we will have carried out detailed examinations and provided in depth oral assessments. It is usual for us to take x-rays and study models of your mouth. We may also request a CT (computerised tomography) scan, which is a life sized, three dimensional x-ray, enabling us to take precise measurements of the amount and quality of bone available and find the exact location of vital structures and nerves which may be within the implant placement site to avoid any complications. The time spent on your case at this stage is crucial to the success of the treatment to ensure you receive the correct implant.
After the planning stage, you will be provided with a full written quotation. Methods of payment will be discussed and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Questions regarding the quotation or treatment plan may be asked at any stage.
Do I need to have a healthy mouth?
When you first enquire about dental implants, it is often in response
to an awareness of ongoing dental problems or the recent loss of teeth.
Each of these problems will have to be diagnosed and treated in a logical
manner, often placing implants in order to establish healthier conditions.
Basic dental health, such as the treatment of decay and gum disease,
is of paramount importance to the long term success of implant treatment.
Time will need to be spent with one of our hygienists prior to implant placement so that oral hygiene is of the very highest standard.
What is it like having implants placed?
Generally speaking, having implants placed is not at all painful. We
will offer you sedation if you are anxious about the placement procedure.
When deciding on a date to have your implants placed, it is important
to avoid significant social engagements for at least a week after. This
is just to be on the safe side. Time off work is usually unnecessary.
What are the alternatives?
For people who have no teeth:
For people who have some of their own teeth:
We have a patient DVD education system (CAESY) similar to the program shown in the waiting room, to help fully explain your implant treatment as well as any alternative treatments. If you have not seen this, please ask a member of staff to show you.
Can I spread the cost of my treatment?
YES. Ask any of our staff at Springfield about our credit facilities
which will allow you to spread the cost of your treatment into affordable
monthly payments that suit every budget.
